Grown-Ups Eat Differently

Distinguish between adults and kids can help you eat better. There’s no pressure to eat the same thing and at the same time as your kids.

Kids’ bodies have different needs than adults.  Kids can eat more carbs and need more meals to grow. Adults’ bodies have stabilized. We no longer need empty carbs, and we can teach ourselves to enjoy more varieties of vegetables.  It’s okay to prepare food for the kids, and prepare different foods for yourselves.

Sharing a sit-down meal as a family doesn’t require you to eat. It might seem odd at first, but it’s okay to fast a meal while the kids eat a whole meal. They likely won’t notice or care, and you’ll feel better afterwards.

Your kids’ leftovers are not your responsibility to finish. Learn to save leftovers for the next meal. If you must eat what the kids don’t finish, choose the healthy parts and skip the rest. For example, opt for the middle of chicken nuggets or a burrito and skip the carb wrapping.
