Don’t count calories. Counting calories doesn’t work long-term. It’s better to build holistic mental models to eating well.

  • Calories are too precise. It takes up extra mental effort to calculate and track.
  • Our bodies are not math equations. Calories makes it seem like working out is what cancels out what you ate. Working out is great for the body but doesn’t impact weight as much as you think.
  • 100 calories of good food is different from 100 calories of bad food. Eating bad food is like pouring gallons of milk into a car when it’s meant to function on gas (or electricity). Your car is built for a specific type of fuel to work properly. Your body as well.

Don’t let a single day derail you. If your weight goes up one day even though you tried hard and ate well, it’s okay. Try again tomorrow. Food takes around 3 days to go through your body. Whether you binge ate or fasted really hard, don’t let your weight that day dictate your happiness. Wait 3 days to see where your weight stabilizes at.
