Day 4: Caveats on Weight

Personal weight can be a sensitive and emotional topic. In addition to BMI, there are other health metrics that helps you understand your body better (e.g. DEXA scan).

We like to keep it simple. The scale is a simple tool that we like. Some caveats:

  • Don’t be obsessed. Don’t let the number affect your emotions or propel you to take drastic actions.
  • Be patient. Food takes ~3 days to get through the body. If you eat a big meal and then work out to compensate, you won’t see a difference on the scale immediately.

You are so much more than the number on the scale. Your identity is in being a beautiful creation of God, made to do beautiful things.

Homework: Get a scale. Make it a practice to step on it each morning. Whatever the number you see, shrug your shoulders and say “Looks like my body weighs _____ lbs today. Looks good!”
